Annie Urstad, LPC-A

My story

I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) in Oklahoma. I work with individuals and couples virtually across Oklahoma.

I grew up in Norway, backpacked the world, spent my college years in Hawaii, and lived on the road in a converted van for a year during COVID before my husband and I settled in the U.S. Experiencing different cultures, transitions, and ways of living has shaped how I approach therapy, with respect, curiosity, and an appreciation for the many ways people make meaning of their lives.

I'm a military wife and a recovering people-pleaser. I know what it's like to be the helper, the peacekeeper, the one everyone leans on. And I know what it takes to finally start asking: what do I actually need?

That's the work I get to do with people every day.
This is the journey of coming home to yourself.

A few things worth knowing

I aim to create a space where all people feel safe and respected. I warmly welcome and affirm LGBTQ+ clients.

I take a holistic approach and believe that nutrition, movement, and physical health are part of emotional wellbeing. This naturally influences how I work and can shape what we talk about in sessions.

Spirituality matters to me personally. I connect with the teachings of Jesus in a non-rigid way. This doesn't have to shape our sessions — but if it's important to you, it can be included.

Education and Training

Before becoming a therapist, I worked for a decade back in Norway in geriatric care supporting people living with dementia. I also have experience across psychiatry, addiction, and education — including time as a classroom teacher. That breadth shapes how I see people: with patience, curiosity, and respect. I work to understand your story with openness, while staying aware of my own assumptions and biases.

Outside the therapy room

You'll usually find me outdoors, which is part of why walk and talk therapy excites me. Movement shifts something. You can also find me unicycling, learning to day-trade, traveling, or spending time with family.

I share tools and reflections as the.norwegian.therapist on Instagram and TikTok — follow along if that resonates.
